Inauguration of President Samia Suluhu Hassan

The election in Tanzania is over, and the demonstrations have likely subsided. Following the parliamentary elections on October 29, 2025, nationwide demonstrations took place in Tanzania in 2025. These protests represent the largest and most significant demonstrations since Tanzania's independence in 1961 and also the most intense since the reintroduction of multi-party elections 33 years prior. While there had been local protests on various issues before 2025, organized mass demonstrations against the government had been rare for decades. The period without major, nationwide demonstrations thus lasted until approximately 2025. This means that widespread protests were uncommon in the more than 60 years since independence, and significant demonstrations only reappeared in 2025. In summary, there had been no large-scale nationwide demonstrations in Tanzania for over 60 years until the events of 2025, when protests erupted in response to disputed elections and state repression. Shortly after the inauguration of President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Vice President Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi in Dodoma, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema called on Tanzanians to protect peace at all costs. He emphasized that it was the most valuable thing other countries sought. President Hichilema acknowledged that while Tanzanians faced challenges, they also had immense opportunities to achieve their goals. He emphasized the importance of unity for maintaining peace and stability, noting that Tanzania's security is crucial not only for its own people but also for its neighbors, including Zambia. He recalled the historical solidarity between Tanzania and Zambia in supporting liberation movements in southern Africa and stressed that the destinies of both countries remain closely intertwined. He also reminded Tanzanians of their shared role in efforts to restore peace and stability in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These two examples illustrate regional cooperation and shared responsibility. President Hichilema further urged the government to address the challenges facing young people through quality education and improved employment opportunities. @https://dailynews.co.tz/dodoma-set-for-registration-of-the-newly-elected-parliamentarians/
