Demos against abductions in Kenya ; crime

Senator, activist Okiya Omtatah on Monday, December 30, filed a suit in the Supreme Court to compel the Inspector General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department and National Intelligence Service (NIS) to bring to justice seven people who were abducted by people believed to be police officers. These protests were not accidental. The young people who were abducted were all Gen Z activists and they are a thorn in President Ruto's side. There are witnesses who saw men in police uniform, which suggests that this action was ordered.  Omtatah turned to court as calls for positive action from the government on the recent spate of abductions in the country grew louder, calling on government authorities to come clean on the alleged enforced disappearances of Kenyans in recent weeks. Omtatah later joined protesters in Nairobi's central business district as Kenyans took to the streets with placards strongly criticising the Kenya Kwanza government. Officers were on standby in case of possible unrest and water cannons were spotted around the Kenyatta International Convention Centre. Two families are coming to terms with the death of their loved ones after the bodies of two young Kenyans were been found in Mwiki and Banana, sparking fears of the worrying trend in which a number of Kenyans have been reported missing only to be found dead, with some missing to date and others found alive later. The first body was discovered in Nairobi’s Mwiki area on Saturday January 04 and was positively identified as that of Ian Singoe. Ian, aged 26, had been missing for several days with the family hoping to find him alive only for today’s discovery of his body to dash their hopes. The second body was discovered in Banana in the outskirts of Nairobi on Saturday, January 4, 2025. The body was found naked and wrapped in a shawl with clothes believed to be those of the deceased placed a few metres from where the body was found. Kenyans toojk to the streets on Monday, 30 December to call for an end to the abductions that have been reported in recent days with victims still missing and with National Police Service clarifying that their officers are not in any way involved in the disappearances. #PulseNews https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMkDovGgc/
