Constable James Mukhwana had made a confession
Constable James Mukhwana had made a confession before the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA).
He stated that he had been ordered to prepare the attack on Ojwang.
He had received the order from Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat via Police Constable Samson Talaam at the Central Police Station.
He claimed that Talaam had instructed him to ensure that Ojwang was attacked by fellow inmates upon his arrival. He had warned him not to disobey his superior's order.
Ojwang was to be attacked until he was hospitalized, so that he could be taken to the hospital without being killed. This was Mukhwana's explanation. The whole operation then escalated. Mukhwana heard Ojwang screaming and ran to him, but Ojwang was already unconscious.
Mukhwana had spoken to Talaam, who warned him to discuss the matter by phone.
Mukhwana also wrote to Talaam. After this warning, Mukhwana immediately deleted all social media.
Another officer allegedly ordered Mukhwana to buy alcohol for 2,000 KSh, which Talaam had slipped him, because the prisoners could not have committed this crime while fully conscious.
This officer identified Gil Ammiton, Collins Ireri, Brian Mwaniki, and Erick Ndambuki, who later tortured Ojwang to death in a police cell.
The question that hasn't been answered here is, from whom did OCS Talaam receive his orders? Surely Talaam had no reason to torture and ultimately kill Ojwang? Ojwang was a blogger, and that's dangerous in Kenya. All bloggers and activists are arrested. And these arrest warrants didn't come from Talaam! This order comes from the very top! Has the SSU perhaps not been dissolved at all, as Ruto apparently did? Everything points to that.
