This statement was made by Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi, regarding alleged kidnappings by police in Kenya. Muturi reportedly condemned nighttime kidnappings by security forces, describing them as a form of "state terror."
The alleged kidnappings are at the heart of the issue. There are allegations that security officials have abducted individuals, particularly activists and critics, often at night and without due process.
Muturi issued a warning. As Speaker of the National Assembly, Muturi expressed concern about these actions, saying they undermine the rule of law and instill fear among citizens.
Human rights groups and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) have also raised the alarm, demanding accountability and an end to enforced disappearances.
And the government's response? They have either denied involvement or stated that the arrests are part of legitimate measures to combat crime or terrorism.
What else is left? Kenya has come under fire for alleged extrajudicial police actions, particularly during political unrest or security operations. Muturi's comments underscore growing calls for transparency and due process in arrests.
