The methods of oppression continue

The Judicial Service Commission condemned the police for firing shots during the re-arrest of a suspect at the Ruiru Law Courts on Friday, July 4. The drama unfolded shortly after youth leader Peter Kinyanjui Wanjiru, an ally of Democratic Change Party leader Rigathi Gachagua, was released on Sh500,000 bail. Peter Kinyanjui Wanjiru, also known as Kawanjiru, is the youth leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) in Kiambu County, Kenya. He is a grassroots politician and a staunch supporter of former Vice President Rigathi Gachagua, playing a key role in mobilizing youth in the county. In June 2025, Kinyanjui was arrested in connection with the violent Generation Z protests on June 25, which resulted in property damage, including the arson of the Kiambu Court. His arrest was reportedly violent. Armed police stormed his home in Limuru and fired shots to intimidate neighbors. After Kinyanjui was granted 500,000 shillings bail and released from detention at the Ruiru Court, he was rearrested by anti-terrorism police outside the court under dramatic circumstances. During the rearrest, police fired shots into the air to disperse the crowd, causing chaos and panic among supporters and onlookers. His mother and family pleaded for his release during the incident, but police took him away in a white van. The Judicial Service Commission condemned the police's use of firearms on the court premises during the re-arrest and emphasized the need to respect the sanctity of the court. Kinyanjui remains under investigation for his alleged involvement in the riots and arson attacks during the Gen Z protests. In addition to him, another DCP youth leader, Wanjiku Thiga, was also arrested and re-arrested after being released on bail. In summary, Peter Kinyanjui Wanjiru is a prominent youth politician in Kiambu who has been linked to the recent protests and unrest. He is currently facing legal proceedings for controversial police actions during his arrests. @https://www.kenyans.co.ke/news/113844-jsc-condemns-police-gunfire-during-re-arrest-peter-kinyanjui-ruiru-law-courts @the sunday standard, JSC condemns police gun drama during Ruiru court arrest
