General Tanganyika Maumau leader

General Tanganyika was a high-ranking Mau Mau leader associated with the Hika Hika Battalion during the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya. He was known as a battalion leader and was executed on July 6, 1956. He played a significant role in the Mau Mau resistance, including leading raids such as one on the home of a white settler named Gray. The Hika Hika Battalion was one of the notable units within the Mau Mau movement, which fought for Kenya's independence from colonial rule. General Tanganyika's real name was reportedly Muriu.
General Tanganyika (Muriuki Kamotho), commander of the Hika-Hika Battalion, was arrested on April 10, 1956. His capture came when his unarmed fighters were searching for food in the forest. However, not a single shot was fired.
Tanganyika was considered one of the most wanted leaders of the Mau Mau rebel movement. He successfully hid from the colonial authorities for three and a half years. Previously, in October 1955, he had carried out a raid on the home of white settler Gray Leakey, which brought the Mau Mau notoriety. The rebels captured Liki, took him to the forest and buried him alive. After his arrest, Tanganyika was sentenced to death
