Lease JKIA Nairobi

President of Kenya, William Ruto, had decided to lease the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi to an Indian company. The reason for this is probably because Kenya is in financial distress. The very idea of ​​leasing the airport is absurd. If Ruto believes that the airport managers are not doing a good job, then the most obvious thing to do would be to find better managers. Apparently, Ruto has no faith in his people. He could also lease his presidency, that would make a difference. The Supreme Court has now frozen the possible contract to lease the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for 30 years. The Kenya Human Rights Commission and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) had filed a petition against the lease plan. They are against the contract and argue that it was entered into in violation of the constitution and is therefore void. The LSK argued that the risk of illegality and waste of public funds in the deal was high and the danger of a constitutional violation was real; the urgency to address the problem was clear. The Kenyan government could raise the estimated US$1.85 billion or Sh238 billion required to build the JKIA without leasing the institute for 30 years. The JKIA is a strategic and profitable national asset that was to be leased to Indian conglomerate Adani and its subsidiaries for 30 years. The Adani Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate. The group was founded in 1988 by Gautam Adani as a commodity trading company and is now involved in maritime and airport management, power generation and transmission, mining, natural gas, food, arms and infrastructure.
