Ethiopia got a new president

Ethiopia has a new president. Diplomat Taye Atske Selassie was elected president. Taye took over from the country's first female president, where executive power rests with the prime minister, Zewde, the first female president, who made history by becoming Ethiopia's first female president in 2018. Taye Atske Selassie was sworn in on October 7, 2024. Taye has some experience as a diplomat, having served as Ethiopia's permanent ambassador to the United Nations in New York. There have been reports of a dispute between him and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
