A gang has been arrested in Nyahururu.

A gang has been arrested in Nyahururu. Nyahururu is a town in Kenya, located in Laikipia County, and is the highest town in the country at an elevation of 2,303 meters. It was formerly known as Thomson's Falls, named after the nearby 74-meter Thomson's Falls on the Ewaso Narok River. The town is a significant economic center with strong agricultural activities, including maize and potato farming, and has recently seen growth in flower farming. Nyahururu is also known for its high-altitude training facilities, attracting athletes like Olympic marathoner Samuel Wanjiru. The town offers various attractions, including Thomson Falls and nearby national parks like Lake Nakuru.
The gang includes fake lawyers, chiefs and officials from the Ministry of Lands.  This gang had defrauded thousands of people of money and property in Nyahururu.  In an operation, officers of the Law Society (LSK) and investigators from the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) arrested two suspects, a man and a woman, who were posing as law firms operating in Kiambu and Nairobi counties. Documents and files recovered during an operation at the fraud gang's offices in Nyahururu revealed that several people from Laikipia, Nyandarua, Baringo and Samburu counties had been defrauded by these fake lawyers who are working with corrupt government officials. You don't have to go far as the two offices are just a few metres from the Nyahururu courthouse and close to the offices of the Ministry of Lands. The investigation found that this network is large. Stamps of lawyers from other towns such as Nyeri were found, as well as documents illegally created by the fraudsters. It all came to light because the LSK became aware of complaints from people who lost money and property through the dealings of these fake brokers, which were carried out in collaboration with chiefs and officials from the Ministry of Lands. "We found that the lawyers are neither informed nor have they consented to the use of their seals."  We have expanded the investigation to include LSK-approved lawyers suspected of being involved in the scandal of facilitating illegal activities. "We are surprised that some companies owned by LSK members are operating illegally in Laikipia County without the knowledge of the organisation that oversees the lawyers."   "It is offices like these that facilitate illegal activities," said Mr Mbugua. He said the investigation would be expanded to include other government officials involved in these illegal activities. “These fraudsters are in the business of selling, buying and bequeathing land,” it was explained.
