Negotiations have begun between the DRC and the M23
Direct talks between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the M23 rebels will begin on March 18 in the Angolan capital, the Angolan presidential office announced in a statement on Wednesday. Angola announced it is seeking direct talks, marking progress in efforts toward a peaceful solution.
The South African state is attempting to mediate a lasting ceasefire and reduce tensions between Congo and its neighbor Rwanda, which is accused of supporting the M23.
The Congolese government has repeatedly rejected negotiations with the M23 and stated on Tuesday that it had reviewed the Angolan plan.
There was no immediate comment from Kinshasa. Recently, it was reported that negotiations have begun between the DRC and the M23 militia. These talks are crucial.
