EFCC Grills Chief Judge of Nigeria Found With Wife

Africa, Africa... corruption everywhere... Officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) interrogated Chief Justice John Tsoho of the Nigerian Federal Court for several hours regarding the large sum of cash found in his wife's possession. John Tsoho was awarded the Papal Order of Chivalry by the Catholic Diocese of Gboko in December 2023 for his service and contributions to the community. He is also a recipient of the national Order of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR). An EFCC source stated that the EFCC interrogated Chief Justice Tsoho for hours about the cash found in his wife's possession. This followed a report that the woman was interrogated by EFCC officials while traveling. She was returned to Abuja. EFCC officials reportedly found $160,000 in cash in her possession during the search. The Chief Justice is scheduled to appear before the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), accused of failing to disclose his assets as required by law. A petition alleges that Judge Tsoho violated the Code of Conduct by not fully disclosing his assets, including three bank accounts at the United Bank for Africa (UBA) and another at Access Bank. If the Code of Conduct Bureau finds sufficient grounds for suspicion, the anti-corruption agency could file charges against the Chief Justice. A conviction could result in a prison sentence of up to ten years and a ten-year ban from holding public office. The circumstances surrounding the funds and the purpose of the trip have not yet been officially clarified. The incident comes amid mounting criticism of Judge Tsoho.
