Warm Handshake between Sergey Lavrov and Musalia Mudavadi in Moscow
The visit of Musalia Mudavadi, Kenyan Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, to Moscow from March 15-17, 2026, was primarily aimed at halting the illegal recruitment of Kenyan citizens into the Russian army for the war in Ukraine. Over 1,000 Kenyans were deceived with promises of civilian jobs and then drafted into the military, with at least 18 killed and 30 missing. Mudavadi called for safe repatriation and improved access to civilian labor markets in Russia. In addition to protecting Kenyan citizens, the two-day state visit was intended to deepen bilateral relations between Kenya and Russia, particularly in areas such as education, labor mobility, health, infrastructure, and energy. Mudavadi met with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Ministers of Education and Labor and delivered a lecture at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. This occurred amid geopolitical tensions, with Russia denying the allegations. https://www.kbc.co.ke/pcs-mudavadi-arrives-in-moscow-for-a-two-day-state-visit/ https://www.tuko.co.ke/kenya/620450-musalia-mudavadi-leaves-moscow-concerns-kenyans-joining-russian-military/ https://www.capitalfm.co.ke/news/2026/03/mudavadi-heads-to-moscow-for-talks-on-kenyans-in-russia/ https://amp.dw.com/en/kenya-foreign-minister-musalia-mudavadi-in-moscow-ukraine-war-russian-army-conscripts/a-76366201 [
